3. Cutting-edge Signalling with Optical Fiber & Automation:

Indian Railways is replacing traditional wiring with optical fiber-based signal control—first deployed in Bhopal’s Nishatpura Yard. This upgrade ensures faster, more secure signal transmission, fail-safe redundancy, better punctuality, and easier upkeep. Automatic Block Signaling (ABS) further maximizes throughput on busy lines.


4. Real-Time Visibility via GPS-Enabled Tracking:

The Real-Time Train Information System (RTIS), in collaboration with ISRO, equips thousands of trains with GPS trackers. It updates locations every 30 seconds, enabling accurate arrival/departure data for passengers and improved traffic management.



5. Passenger Comfort & Digital Convenience:

Modernizations like online ticketing (via IRCTC and apps), QR-code and UPI payments at counters, free Wi‑Fi at over 6,000 stations, and onboard bio-toilets significantly enhance hygiene, connectivity, and convenience for travelers.


6. Efficiency & Sustainability: Electrification & Rolling Stock:

Indian Railways has nearly fully electrified its broad-gauge network, reducing reliance on diesel and lowering emissions. Energy-saving technologies like head-on generation (HOG) in WAP-7 locomotives transfer traction power to coaches directly. Combined with LHB/Vande Bharat trainsets and hydrogen train pilots, these advancements boost efficiency, comfort, and eco-friendliness.
